A little organisation and planning is the key to a smooth and stress free relocation.
As soon as you know the day you wish to move you should book it in with your removalist. This gives you the best chance to get the day that works best for you!
Some good bargains can be found on facebook groups and gumtree. It is recommended to stick to proper removal cartons that are still in good condition. This ensures boxes stay in good condition throughout the move. Some non removal boxes can’t handle weight in them and being stacked on.
There are usually a few things in your house you no longer need or use. Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree are great places for selling on items you don’t need. If you have a lot of items to clean out why not book a stall at a car boot sale or organise a garage sale. Even just one box of items helps on moving day!
Make a list as you pack of what’s in each box and what room the box came from. You’ll be glad you did when you are looking for specific items before you’ve fully unpacked!

Sort parts of cupboards that you don’t use every day. It is a good idea to have a corner of the garage or a room to start stacking boxes. This allows you to still move freely throughout your home and continue with day to day activities.
It’s a good idea to let your internet/power companies know you are moving ahead of time.
If you have pets or animals it may be easier to have a friend or relative look after them for a few days over the move day. Animals such as cats are especially prone to stressing over big changes to your home.
Now is the time to really dive into packing up. At this stage generally most things can be packed up. It is a good idea to leave out everyday crockery and glasses to last a few days. Same goes for your clothes. If it’s summer you don’t need jumpers!
If you are moving potted plants we recommend that you do not water them for at least two days prior to your move to ensure that there is no excess water in them which may leak into the truck.
